Angelo Galasso USA Stores
Angelo Galasso adds a new dimension to menswear, allowing a new breed of men to enjoy a service that merges the tradition of classic tailoring – a tradition, which is steeped in Italian craftsmanship and the creativity of couture houses, reminiscent of a world of exclusive and unique garments, conceived by couturiers with just one client in mind. This is what Angelo calls Tradition in Evolution.
The aesthetic of Angelo Galasso is groundbreaking yet timeless. In 2002, the Financial Times hailed Angelo as “the Da Vinci of shirts”. The Polso Orologio Shirt is a garment that trespasses the boundaries of men’s wardrobes and found a space in the Design Museum in London. An epiphany that brought him to realise that what he created with his shirts could be done with menswear. Each garment relates to collector pieces that will live beyond seasons.
Each man is different and today, even more than before, each man wants to express his individuality in an unprecedented manner. Men are as demanding as women when it comes to their wardrobes.
Uniqueness through craftsmanship and design is the ethos of each Angelo Galasso garment; preserving Italian manufacturing by keeping alive skills that otherwise would have died out and the amboyancy of design that relates to couture ateliers. Angelo Galasso has thus crossed a line by creating a pioneering service that was not available to men before.
In the beginning, it was a game. Then it became a passion. Now it is fashion. These few, short sentences capture how Angelo Galasso, born in 1959 in Apulia, Italy, has achieved international success thanks to his unique style. Growing up in a typical large middle-class Italian family, Angelo’s father forbade his son to play in the streets for fear that he would fall in with the wrong crowd. Instead, he encouraged him to make friends with the local artisans who had workshops along the main street. The tailor, the shirt maker, the trouser maker and the cobbler all welcomed him into their shops, where Angelo started to become familiar with fabrics and cloths, colours and proportions. He came to understand the immense value of those trades that are carried out by simple men who have been passing on their knowledge from generation to generation making extraordinary products.
Angelo asked his new-found friends to help him change his style, finding a way of expressing his uniqueness and breaking established codes that have made a lasting mark on his life and career. Feeling the pressure of a small provincial environment, Angelo, now married, eventually moved to Rome with his family. He moved often and changing cities became a feature of his life. In Rome, however, Angelo underwent a strong stylistic development and in 1990 he launched Interno 8, a ground breaking shirt collection that rewrote the rules of traditional tailoring, with its exceptionally high collars and long cuffs. By the mid 90’s, Interno 8 had become a phenomenal success, with 80 stores throughout Italy. It was at this time that Angelo created the exclusive Polso Orologio (Watch cuff) shirt. The design was inspired by former Fiat president Gianni Agnelli, known in Italy as ‘the Lawyer’, who was forced to wear his watch over his shirt cuff due to an allergy, leading Angelo Galasso to appreciate that fashion is a combination of trends and needs.
Later, the design was exhibited at the Design Museum in London, leading the Financial Times to dub Angelo as The Da Vinci of Shirts. In 2000, Angelo’s desire to explore new horizons brought him to London. It was a choice that brought him major success, thanks to high-profile clients such as Sir Paul McCartney, Roger Moore, David Beckham, King Abdullah of Jordan, Puff Daddy, Michael Caine, Simon and Yasmin Le Bon, Rod Stewart, Beyoncé and Jay-Z. In 2005, Angelo conceived and launched Billionaire Italian Couture in conjunction with Flavio Briatore, himself an Interno 8 customer. The innovative and original high end concept established Angelo Galasso as one of the most talented designers on the international fashion scene. Angelo’s pioneering spirit and his need to always move forward led him to the most important step in his career so far, the launch of his eponymous line that once again revolutionised menswear.
In 2009 ANGELO GALASSO was born and the first House opened in London’s Knightsbridge, heart of the Capital’s fashion scene. The Milano House opened in 2011 in Via Montenapoleone quickly followed by New York in 2012, where ANGELO GALASSO took over The Edwardian room in The Plaza. The Moscow House opened shortly after and the same year the Fondazione Angelo Galasso (Angelo Galasso Foundation) was launched in collaboration with Moscow’s State Historical Museum. In 2013 Angelo was voted for the second year running one of GQ’s Best Dressed Men, ahead of International stars such as David Beckham, Prince Charles and Daniel Craig. In Spring 2013 the brand launched Unico, the exclusive made-to measure service that offers the modern gentleman the unique possibility to build an entire wardrobe to his specifications, from suiting and shirting to leather accessories.
